Question regarding alignment and constraints.

Using the 3 circles as shown in the image. I'm calculating the the x direction distance from center of main chimney to left bushing circle center side and x direction distance from center of main chimney to right bushing circle center side. My issue is when the part is rotated slightly it produces different results. When constraining in x-direction under feature, evaluation. The result is more close to nominal Is this the proper way to do this , or is there a better way?

If it rotated it will give different reading,it goes without saying..
I strongly believe constraining axis is not invented for this purpose.
You should follow the alignment, mentioned in your drawing...

Constraining X prevents Calypso from best-fitting the feature in the X direction. Instead it uses the nominal X coordinate. That's why your result is closer. Constraining is only for special situations. You shouldn't use it in 'normal' measurements.
If your X distance changes with part rotation, something seems to be wrong with the alignment.

Which Characteistic are you using to report the distance?

One reason I prefer Cartesian Distance is I tell Calypso exactly which features to use as a reference.

I think "evaluation constrains" is given too much shelf space in Calypso. This gives a misleading impression as to its importance. I used to think "hmm, maybe I should be using this more often," since it's so readily displayed in the programming workflow.
