I found this attachment here on the forum. On page 116, it talks about "self-center scan a helical cylinder up the thread with at least 5 revolutions". Does this require an active head? I am using a vast XXT.

Yes, you can do helical scans on an XXT, but NOT self-centering ones. With an XXT, you can only self-center single points.

If you are using an XXT, I recommend the linear line scans up the thread. You will need to go slower, and collect a lot of points. Then in the Outlier Elimination set the factor to (1) Inside and (3) Outside, number of adjacent points to (5), number of iterations to (3) - like I said you will need a lot of data for this to work correctly.
