Calypso 2021 Upgrade Rotary Table Issues

Hey Everyone,

Thought I would check to see if anyone else has experienced any weird Rotary Table issues after a Calypso update.

Summary : We updated from 2017 to 2021 and have all the latest firmware installed by a Zeiss Tech.

We typically program from a saved base alignment which is pretty much X/Y = 0 center of R/T and Z = 0 / Top of RT . From there we find the part, roughly measure datums with single points, qualify RT using a feature, and then scan datums with R/T. This uses a few secondary alignments and improves/builds off the last, etc.

The trouble we found is after our rough alignment, and qualifying the RT (on a sufficient length external cylinder journal on the part), when it goes to begin scanning datums with R/T - The R/T rotates and the probe tries to go around the external journal as well !! 😱

Tangential probing is deactivated as well as navigator (Prismo with embedded RT).

What we have found is moving the RT features before our rough alignment - with a non scanning feature following the R/T qualification; it seems to behave normally - as expected , etc.

We've been on the phone with Zeiss for days - Germany claims unable to replicate the issue. We are jumping through every hoop, trying everything with Zeiss US.

We have hundreds if not thousands of programs that use this same method it would be a bit of a pain to change and have operators verify every time its been changed, etc.

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts...

Thanks,

I don't use the RT that much but, have been the last couple days running Calypso version 7.2.08 and haven't had any issues as you described. On the parts I've been running I set the rotary axis alignment method #2 where it's scanning vertical shafts 180° @ RT Zero and then rotating the table to 180 and scanning 180° again, creating a symmetry for the axis qualification.
With your experience, it's probably a forgone conclusion that you're using the RTCP clearances, right?
Maybe a bogus screwed up algorithm with the install, have they asked you to re-install the software?

Owen,

Thanks for the info. Yes we use RTCP's. I normally do RT 0 1st then RT 180 2nd, and we figured Zeiss would have us try opposite, which we did to no avail.

We believe it do be a deeper issue. I'll post back if we make any progress ...

We've tried the install on 2 separate CMMs on 2 brand new computers.

Thanks for the input.
