From the makers of Y14.5 comes an all-new standard more devious than any we've faced before...

Y14.31 - UNDIMENSIONED DRAWINGS

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll facepalm your way to the lackluster coffee vending machine that you hate but keep pumping your children's college fund into because it's all that's available.

Seriously though, do you any of your companies use Y14.31 Undimensioned Drawings? I've been asked to see if our company could use this to declutter prints and improve the drafting phase of design. Per ASME's website, it was last published in 2014, so it's due for an update. I figured if it was really the bee's knees they would update it more frequently to keep up with MBD and PMI embedding in CAD models.

All of our customers are using minimal dimensioned prints. They do not however, list the Y14.31 spec. They will typically add a note stating that it is a minimal dimensioned drawing, the CAD model is the master for all dimensions not shown on the drawing and to meet a part profile tolerance to ABC, unless otherwise stated. Sometimes it will state on the print the authority file name, and only this file and revision is to be used.
