Dotscan Help

Not sure if this should be here or the system forum.

I had an issue last week with the dotscan sensor cord getting caught on the probe rack during a run and it broke the connector between the two fiber optic cables.

I ordered a new connector from Zeiss and installed this morning. However, It now says the dark balance value is too high and I need to do a complete qualification. When trying to do the complete qualification I try to probe in the direction of the shaft stylus and nothing happens. The dotscan won't register a point. I then went into the dotscan menu and select the dark balance in that menu and it alarms out. Anyone ever experience this? I know very little about the dotscan.

I do have a ticket in with zeiss but figured id post here in the meantime.

Thanks in advance

Will, I would be interested to know how this turned out for you. Did you figure out the problem? What did Zeiss do to troubleshoot the issue? Thanks.

Was with Zeiss support for about 2 hours this morning. Overall everything I tried to do was what they tried to do. Dark balance was alarming out and the probe complete calibration wasn't registering points. They also tried deleting the stylus system and creating a new one and cycling a few probe changes. Cleaned contacts of the fiber optic components and nothing seemed to work. There seems to be an interference threshold and its too high and thinking its inside a part. So now I have a ticket it with hardware. I will update as I find out more. All in all nothing has been fixed as of yet.

Update for anyone following. Zeiss came in today for a warranty evaluation. It appears the fiber optic on the top of the column was damaged and "taped" together. So we will see what their verdict is on warranty. Either way the entire cable needs to be replaced and will take a day or two to do once scheduled. Also found out there was tons of debris and some scratches on the top bridge "Accura". So it appears the aluminum may be more prone for wear as time goes on.

Update. Zeiss is continuing with the warranty. The machine will be out of service for around a week for the repair. There needs to be a new cable run throughout the entire column.

Update. Zeiss sent out a tech this week. Turns out they sent the wrong cable and the correct cable is on back order till end of June. So my machine is still down...
