[To...]
Looking for some suggestions on how to measure some Surface and Line Profiles without Curves or Freeform. 1) Surface Profile of plane1 to Datum A, which is a plane parallel to plane1 I know about using Datum A as Primary, Secondary and Tertiary, but is it truly accurate? 2) Line Profile of slot to plane datum feature. (see Pic) Not sure why they didn't just use Surface Profile.Screenshot 2022-03-31 084015.jpg
[Ow...]
Not sure if this is what you're looking for, I didn't write it, can't remember who it was but he use to frequent the forum occasionally. If you have a cad model. I have both here, thanks to you guys, the tax payer. I use both equally as much. Both are very handy, however let me tell you a secret to the poor mans curve and freeform, but don't share it with the rest of the forum ok, this is between you and me. Dear Penthouse&%%(%(^)(*)(&* sorry, wrong forum. Anyways, back to the subject at hand. There are some CMM's here without curve, however they must inspect splines, now we all know you can just click space points all over, but who wants that. We need nice orderly sweeps around parts every 90° or so. On these machines I will section the part under creating features and then go to point set. The feature pull down is usually defaulted to freeform surface here, however select space point, then under general path select from curves. Then select the section you want and hit create and play with the grid length until you get the desired amount of points you want. When satisfied click create feature and this will make a space point group. Be sure and change the evaluation to space point from cad surface. You have just done what curve and freeform will do for you, but for free, stick it to the man. Sometimes a warning pops up and says you dont have freeform, but it still works. Shhhhhh! By all means, if you can buy the real thing, then by all means do so.
[Ri...]
I don't know the Datum structure, but I wonder if they just don't want Perpendicularity of the slot c/l to A.

How would you solve it? This is for a vendor making parts for a customer that I did a demo for, that felt Calypso was not the right solution for them...HA Vendor bought a Zeiss though...LOL
[Ri...]
I've seen Profile of a Line measurements on a surface that then had a note that it was to be measured as Perpendicularity of a Line. Lol.
[Ro...]
Take a bunch of points around the slot, set the Z to be the same height. Open a 2d curve feature, recall the points into the curve. Use the curve as your line profile. FYI, i just opened my most recent part with points and recalled them into a 2d curve, it worked well and was pretty much the same result as the surface profile i just created with these points.hjhjhjhjhjhjhjhj.PNGdgfdgfkj.PNG
[Ro...]
I just rechecked it using a program that had a slot, i was able to "recall feature points" into a curve feature and use it as a line profile. So basically you dont need to do anything extra, other than recall your existing slot. I would say that in general curv does NOT need to be in a straight line. You can pull just about anything into a curve feature and use it as a line profile.dgfshjgfhjdgfdgf.PNGdgfdgfhjdgfdgfdgf.PNG

It's no wonder in today's time based, multitasking world, a normal life includes processing literally hundreds of thousands of topic's in a days time. 50 years ago, it would probably take a person a week or more to digest what we do in one day. Maybe I just need to back off on the coffee 😐 🤣
