Behavior of Profile with No Datum Reference

Hello,
I've noticed some odd behavior of Calypso when creating a profile with no datum reference of a freeform surface. Calypso seems to apply and remove Best Fit without indicating which it is doing.

When first creating a freeform surface (in this case by recalling feature points), no best fit is applied.

However, when I create a profile characteristic and set it to "No Datum Reference" a Gauss best fit is being applied. This can be seen by the lower-than-expected profile result and the evaluation window showing best fit in all 6 DoF:

Other than the evaluation window within the profile characteristic, there is no indication that a best fit is being performed. The feature window still shows the same form and min/max.

Here's the strangest part: If you open the Freeform Surface feature and click on the Evaluation button, you will see "None" under the Best Fit dropdown. If you click "Okay" here and then return to the profile characteristic, this is what happens:

The profile has drastically changed and is now being referenced to the base alignment. The evaluation window still shows that a best fit is being applied in all 6 DoF but this is not the case.

It seems that Calypso is defaulting to a Gauss best fit when "No Datum Reference" is selected in a profile characteristic. However, when opening the Evaluation window of the freeform surface feature and clicking "okay," No Best Fit is locked in and Calypso will use the base alignment instead of no datum reference.

If anyone else can replicate this issue or provide some insight I would be glad to hear your thoughts. This caused me quite a bit of confusion before I figured out what was going on and I'm still not sure if it's a bug or a feature.

Thanks!

Hi Alex,
Did you reload/refresh the surface in the profile characteristic by reselecting it after opening the feature, and also reselecting No Datum Reference again? Calypso is probably defaulting the characteristic back to it's default setting because it thinks you changed the feature by opening it and clicking ok. Hope that makes sense.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for your suggestion!
Reselecting "No Datum Reference" and reselecting the surface don't seem to have any effect on the result. It still shows the result as if it were referencing the base alignment while the evaluation window shows a Best Fit being applied (like in my third picture). It only seems to be actually applying the best fit when the profile characteristic is first created and set to "No Datum Reference." Then, if the evaluation settings in the feature are opened and closed, the profile goes back to the base alignment and the best fit is gone.

It's worth noting that this behavior occurs not only with No Datum Reference, but also for datum reference frames that don't fully constrain the profile. Calypso automatically best-fits the unconstrained DoF until you open and close the feature evaluation settings, which seems to lock in "none" as the best fit method. My issue is that none of this seems to be reliably indicated, anywhere. Opening up the evaluation setting within the characteristic will show best fitting occurring when there is none. The evaluation setting window within the feature will show "None" in the dropdown even when Calypso is doing a best fit.
