We informed to Zeiss.

Any one can help us. Is there is any procedure after collusion for recovery.

Thanks for the help.

This is what I would do.

Remove the RDS plate from the head. Shut down computer and CMM. Look for damage where the RDS plate attaches. Try to wiggle the XXT on the RDS. If it wiggles the XXT nut may be loose or there may be breakage.

If everything looks good reassemble and restart. Hopefully all is good.

About 15 years ago this exact thing happened at my prior job. The gears in the RDS are made of aluminum, and will strip very easily. If they did then you will notice that during rotations/articulations the bladders will keep engage/disengaging, until eventually the won't engage at all. New RDS installed about $7,000.

In situations like this, I try to remember what is what like when I first learned how to use a CMM. I try to remember that humans are not perfect. Nothing is gained from getting angry at a worker, but you can build trust by helping them learn from a mistake.

I know a very talented Zeiss applications engineer that just prior to being hired by Zeiss
smoked an XT head because he entered the wrong clearance, about $10,000 in damage.

Hopefully that's the last time he does that. But a little kindness and a lot of understanding go along way when working with the inexperienced. We were all green, new, at one point. I was able to recover with no damage, good luck.

"were" seems like so long ago for you guys...

We just retired our ST3 head last year, retrofitted the Eclipse it was on with XXT to buy it more useful years.

It was a tank though.

We still have an 1985 vintage MC850 up and running with the original 200 series control. Computer has been updated from the original HP-9836 to a mid 90s 382 workstation with UMESS 300 software.

We still use the smaller model MC 550 (bought in 1990), retrofitted to VAST XT and Calypso in 2007.
Looked almost the same in the beginning, only the controller was an ST87.
Sadly, its days seem to be numbered, as it's already too small for some of our parts and we need to replace it this or next year. 🙁
