[Ll...]
Hello Fellow Programmers, I have a large round assembly with an 8 hole bolt pattern on both ends. The pattern on side A is datum C. I reported those holes to A, B, and a best fit rotation of the 8 holes. For side B I want to do the same, a best fit of the 8 holes, but also use the best fit rotation of the side A pattern as my tertiary datum. Is this possible with Calypso? Thank you. [SH...]
Sounds like you have to use geometry best fit alignment, I hope datum A constrain spatial vector and datum B locating the coordinate system. Pattern datum C constrain the planner rotation. So your datum reference frame is completely constrained?. First create geometry best fit alignment using the pattern holes allow only the rotation constrained by datum c. Then create a secondary alignment assign the geometry best fit alignment to this secondary alignment, fill the secondary alignment with datum a and b. Go to the best fit true position assign this secondary alignment to Bore pattern datum reference frame. Do you have MMB in datum B and C??

Each hole would be independent of the others and located to the fully constrained datum structure. You would create an alignment from your bore pattern on side A and use that alignment to evaluate the holes on side B. Or am I missing something? [To...]
Please sign in to view this quote. When you created the best fit bore pattern on side 1 to A and B, you had the rotation active and no translation. This created a best fit alignment that can be used as the alignment for the best fit bore pattern on side 2 however, you'll need to turn rotations and translations OFF because the 2nd side is fully constrained, like Robert said. Since the best fit on the first pattern was established using A and B, it is carried over within the best fit alignment as ABC.
