[Ca...]
Hey all, I arrived to work this morning to find one of our Duramax's, very, very grouchy. The Status window say's there was an error involving the drives at 9:14 pm. There is no second shift in this lab. So this happened while the machine was sitting.(?) I have a call in to Zeiss, but I'm hoping for some help here too. See attached for all the info I have.
[No...]
Looks like somehow the machine config got damaged. A power outage maybe? That would also correspond to the "drives off" error.
[Ca...]
I was also wondering about some sort of surge. The machine is plugged into an APC BACK-UPS 600, so... Nothing else in the lab seems affected.
[Je...]
Please sign in to view this quote. . We encountered this error message before, and the source was a faulty logic board in the cmm's controller. The logic boards come in a set of 3, so Zeiss replaced all three at the same time. They also provided a device to monitor power flow to and from the controller. After a few weeks, I sent this device back to Zeiss, and they graphed the data, which showed irregular spikes. We upgraded our battery/surge protection, and the problem did not return. I realize you mentioned having surge protection in place, but I thought I'd share our experience for what it's worth. [Er...]
Why companies won't put a $300 UPS on an investment like a CMM is beyond me. Cyberpower is what I bought. CP1500PFCLCD
[Ca...]
I don't think I'd get resistance (hehe) if brought it up, but I'd certainly be unable to explain how no other equipment was effected. Also, Zeiss techs have complimented us on each machine having it's own battery back up, most saying that ordinary power strips are enough. The machine is also, only 8 months old... [Ch...]
Anyone get a resolution to this? I came in this morning and same thing on one CMM.
[Ca...]
I had to get a Zeiss tech to look at it. He determined that the controller board needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, on this Duramax, it was "part of the motherboard", so he ended up replacing (under warranty) the whole computer off the back of the CMM. The service report lists the board as "Product ID 620806-9121-010, Controller C99m BASIC" Hope that helps!

When we had this message on an Eclipse retrofitted with XXT, the tech told us that for one reason or another Calypso isn't getting the information from the controller about the sensor head... so it gives that wonderfully translated message and returns to defaults. It's a hardware/connection failure somewhere in the chain between the head and Calypso software. In our case it turned out to be wiring, after ruling out a number of other, easier options. [Ch...]
Yeah, I restarted the system and it started working again; However, I'm not convinced the machine is fixed. This is my lemon CMM and there are still gremlins hiding in there somewhere.

I had this messgae a few times under different (testing) conditions and I always shook my head when I saw it. If I had had a real problem at the time, I would have clicked the wrong button, that's for sure.

The wrong button will be clicked every time. Thank god for backups.
