General surface and profile

my customer gave me a cad model and told to check the profile without drawing, they pointed me the features for alignment. I don't have curve and free from licence so I used general surface for checking the profile, my question is can I use general surface for profile or there is any standard operating procedure for working with general surface?. I opened the general surface definition template and selected points on the CAD model.

You should be able to click 1 General surface and define all the points using the 1 general surface. You can then use the general surface feature with the surface profile characteristic. 1417_21bb5ae23aee80a142d10ab3982ff0c1.jpg

I believe this is equivalent as using space points and doubling the deviation from the model for calculating the profile. You should be fine using this for profile.
