[To...]
Can anyone explain how an Edge Point is used?
[Da...]
We used it on a part that had a diameter that was just a bit larger than our 1mm probe. To find the true center before attempting to probe for size and position.
[Cl...]
Can you use it for sheet metal too? Say you've got a wavy piece of sheet metal and you need to take a point on the edge, and because it's wavy, the edge isn't consistently in the same spot. [Ro...]
Hi Clarke, Edge point is a constructed feature, so it won't really work for that scenario. For parts like that I will usually do 1 of 2 things... 1) Take a point on the face of the sheet metal right next to the edge, in Z, for example, then use that location in a formula to position and probe the sheet metal edge in the middle if the thickness 2) Use a cylinder probe for the sheet metal edge I personally don't find edge points very useful, as I prefer intersections with planes and 3d features, as opposed to space points. I'm sure it must have some good uses, but I don't really use them. I guess if you had a situation where there wasn't enough room to take planes, lines, etc that edge points could be useful. [Da...]
Please sign in to view this quote. It has been a long time, but, I think we probed three points on the plane around the diameter then drove to where it is supposed to be and probed three points just at the top edge of the diameter to establish the actual center of the diameter then using a formula for X and Y probed the dia. as usual. I wasn't the programmer that set it up.
[Cl...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Twenty years ago Virtual DMIS had a feature named something similar to edge point. It was for sheet metal, so I thought Calypso might offer the same thing.
[Ke...]
I primarily use it to locate thin stamped parts, on larger assemblies (turn individual Edge Points into Planes/Lines, and create secondary alignments), so I'm not sure why you couldn't use them for sheetmetal (I presumed that is what they were made for) See screenshot with notes... not sure if this is what you were looking for, or if I just insulted you 🤣
[To...]
Please sign in to view this quote. No insult taken. It is starting to sink in a little bit. Enough to realize that it isn't something that I really need to understand......yet. 😃 Thanks.
[Ow...]
According to the Roku support team, Calypso 2021 will drive you to the edge point. 🤣
