[Pe...]
Hello, Usually I have been very lazy when making clearance planes and have just told it 0.5 inches per model. I just made a cube to make my custom star probes easier to set up (at least easier when I need 45°s). But this cube is slightly larger than the normal 14.3 or 15mm cubes, and will bonk my parts during certain travel moves as well as calibration. Is there a way to tell calypso that this particular stylus system needs more clearance than normal? Or am I going to have to edit the clearance planes for every program and increase them (as well as the reference sphere)? Thanksomni cube.jpg

[No...]
I second that. Normally a cube like this can only touch the part if it is the end point of a stylus system, such as a counterweight or something, or if there are tips mounted only at one side. But even in the latter case your clearance planes would have to be VERY tightly fit to the part to make this happen, as Calypso always keeps a little more distance than specified by the CP. [Pe...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Here is one such picture of it in action. My part has 4 ears at 45 with holes so it works perfect for this application and has 5 styli on it. Most of the time I just leave these cubes set up, and use them for single 45° at a time in an as-needed basis. Please sign in to view this quote. Normally yes. The problem arises when I start to use this cube and don't have a downward facing probe, only using the XY directions on it. Especially for some older programs that may have been left with the even lazier 10mm clearance cube default, so it just barely doesn't have enough to travel on the top of the part. I know there is a lot of different solutions to avoid the bonk, but ideally I was hoping there was a calypso setting to increase that "little more distance" on top of the CP (i.e. less work for me)
[Da...]
Does it need to be larger or can you have it machined to match the others?
[No...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I'd really like to see a photo of such a situation, as I still can't fully imagine how this could happen, even if the downward probe is missing. The four angled probes at the sides should cover the cube enough (downwards as well as to the sides) to avoid collisions. Is the part and nearby obstacles fully covered by the clearance cube, and are all mounted styli known to Calypso (i.e. calibrated)?
