[Ja...] Posted October 12, 2021 Share Posted October 12, 2021 Hi, Looking some assistance. 1st Time properly using Calypso and just trying to get to grips with it. Looking how to measure a polar radius. I've attached a screenshot of what im trying to measure, small rad less than 90 degrees, i have created an alignment to the Rad Centre but is there any way to report the feature as polar rad in this case the actual radius is R.260". All i can see is the cartesian values and coudlnt find an option in the size tab. PC-Dmis is my usual software and reporting this in that is pretty straightforward and it is probably straightforward in Calypso but I'm just getting used to Calypso.Screenshot 2021-10-12 135933.png Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

[Ja...] Posted October 13, 2021 Author Share Posted October 13, 2021 Thanks for your replies to this, I have tried this in the feature in the feature representation tab but i wasn't getting the actual value of the radius. I may be thinking of this with a Dmis head on, but any rad under 90 degrees in Dmis i would aim to use a technique called adjacent faces and then pitch to the nominal centre using the cad model for assistance. and then take a polar point and report the polar point or even use a fixed rad setting. i have attached a couple of screenshots showing an example. is there any specific strategies of measuring radius features under 90 degrees? and how to report it or check the actaual feature. any help would be appreciated. please excuse the roughness of the screenshot ð€£Screenshot 2021-10-13 102300 (2).png Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

[Ja...] Posted October 13, 2021 Author Share Posted October 13, 2021 I'm am trying to understand the best way to measure radius features that are under 90 degrees of surface area. For example from PC-Dmis point of view, trying to measure a radius feature that is under 90 degrees of surface area using a circle feature sometimes isn't the most accurate way. So to measure this type of feature we would use a vector point, but our alignment system for measuring the vector point would either be offset from the datums or in calypso the Base Alignment to the actual rad centres and reporting the Polar Radius value. i am very new to using Calypso and im trying to gain a better understanding of the software, learn from tips and tricks etc. Please see screenshots attached. 1st Screenshot shows a radius feature with 90 degrees of surface area, checked using a circle feature. the 2nd screenshot shows a feature with little surface, used a cylinder feature just to highlight the feature in question. my question is how would you accurately measure the radius, using a circle feature/ cylinder feature./ polar point etc. i hope this clears things up. [Ma...] Posted October 13, 2021 Share Posted October 13, 2021 In these cases i would prefer taking single points instead of scanning. Or if you use cylinder then you can scan lines along it's axis. In elements is one specific - called radius-point - you just set angle, radius and origin, then you take one point. But it will report only origin - not radius. [Ro...] Posted October 13, 2021 Share Posted October 13, 2021 Features/Special Geometries/Radius Point This drives to the theoretical center of the radius based on your alignment, which you can create from the model, and reports the radial distance. You need to create the alignment first, put the radius point feature in that alignment before you pick a point on the model, and then pick a radial point. Also, make sure to verify if it's an internal or external radius so you approach it correctly. Here's the process, as it's a little wonky... Create radius point feature Open and put in correct alignment to radius center that you created Change nominals to 0,0, as it will default to Base Alignment origin Open the Strategy tab and pick the point Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
