Calypso 6.6 import data from excel 2007 spreadsheet

Our machine running calypso 6.6 will only import data from excel sheets formatted for 97-2003. Is that normal? I need to use more than 3 formatting rules and would like to save the files as 2007 version, as that is the version that is running on the computer. I figured there may be something simple that I am missing somewhere, any advice where to look?
