Kink Point

Can the geometry be too slight or smooth of a transition to pick up the kink point?

I'm using a 2D curve, and recalled line & circle.
The circle is a 22mm diameter; the distance from the two surfaces planes (adjacent to the diameter) is 0.15mm

We use the kink point for a very similar application (R3.00") transitioning smoothly
to a flat. Very similar to what you have pictured here. I think I ended up constraining
the radius of the circle for it to work properly.

Well.. that didn't work for me; but only recalling the bottom half of the circle path did... now to see if it is repeatable.

What about bestfitting curve in needed axis and create alignment from it. Then you can place theoretical point to nominal place with bestfit alignment.

Then you can use caliper distance between this point and theoretical point from BA. Or recall feature to BA to report XYZ
