CAD Models/meshModel?

I'm using PiWeb Plus and am trying to add CAD models and MIBA flags to some of our reports to help clarify our true position results. I'm having trouble working with and pulling models into the report, I have had some success although I was not able to pull the model in as described in the ZEISS tutorials.

The instructions I read say to drag the "image" element from the toolbox into the report page, then right click on the image element and select: Image > Load CAD Model. Well, this option isn't there, only: Image > Load Image, etc. ???

I was able to pull a CAD model in by dragging the image element into the report page and while it's selected go to the "CAD" tab and in the add dropdown select: "From additional data..." I tried to use the option "From file" but it seems none of my CAD models are in the proper format and do not show up there. I've tried saving the models in various formats and still no luck.

Where does CALYPSO or PiWeb retrieve the model from when I use the "From additional data" option? Where are the ".meshModel" (s) stored? Can I convert my existing models over to .meshModel format???

I'm super confused, I'll have more questions as I dig deeper but this will be a good start for now. Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

When you create your report, load the Image placeholder from the toolbox and drop it onto your report. Then go to the CAD tab (with the Image placeholder selected) and then click the green + button. Click on 'From additional data' and you should see the CAD model there. This is uploaded automatically from Calypso, or you can force the send under Resources > Results to File > PiWeb Reporting Configuration and there is a button to upload the CAD model to the database.

The advantage of loading the model this way is that you get the wireframe model and all of the MIBA references will link to the correct location on the CAD model (ie. your MIBA for Diameter 1 will show up in the center of Diameter 1 on the CAD model).

To load your own files, you can use STL files. You can't import STEP or IGES etc. If you loading an STL file that does not match the base alignment origin & orientation, you will not have your MIBA connections in the correct spot. If you save the STL file from Calypso it will be fine to import & retain the CAD relationship to your characteristics, but at that point I have to ask Why are you doing more work for a poorer quality CAD file?

Awesome response and great info, thanks Laura!

I was able to get it to work using the first method you described and I agree, the .STL files create a sub par CAD model.

Is the "Section View" option available in PiWeb Plus or is an upgrade required for that capability?

I don't see section view as an available object in my PiWeb Reporting Plus toolbox. I do see it when I load Designer from the standalone PiWeb (SBS/Enterprise). My guess is that it requires either SBS or Enterprise to utilize that function.

If you're already using PiWeb Reporting Plus, you're already at the maximum level of capabilities for that tier of PiWeb.

FYI, the tiers are
- PiWeb Reporting
- PiWeb Reporting Plus
- PiWeb SBS (Small business solution)
- PiWeb Enterprise

What about using a Graphic Point set for setting up a CAD Deviation analysis in PiWeb, has anyone had any luck attempting this?

I've followed the instructions included in the link below, when I get to the PiWeb part I can't seem to find a way to correlate the Graphic Point set with the CAD deviation analysis object in PiWeb.
