Vast XXT Head Getting Loose!

Good morning everyone,

To introduce myself, my name is Daniel and I've recently been thrown to the wolves as our CMM Programmer quit a few weeks ago. I was just an operator, but now I'm the main CMM guy and its pretty nerve-wracking 😱

So last week our Zeiss CMM had its yearly calibration by the Zeiss techs and they brought up a concern that the Vast XXT probe head could be missing a ball bearing, next day they said "nevermind its okay" and they put the same probe head back on.

Yesterday morning, the probe head was really loose and I had to manually tighen it before running our daily probe qualifiaction because it was erroring out.

This morning the probe head is loose again! I can wiggle the Vast XXT where it connects to the arm. This has never happened before.

Is there a lock washer or O-ring that could be missing from our Vast XXT probe head? I cant find a parts list online.

Thanks everyone! 😃

@Keith and Tom: The first time I hand tighented on the lighter side because I was afraid of breaking something.

Second time (after talking to a Zeiss rep) I hand tightened harder and its been running fine so far today. All the probes passed qualification but the real test will be time. I'll have to see if its still okay on monday.

Otherwise its an $11,000 bill to replace the probe head

Welcome Daniel....

I had ended up with a loose Vast XXT Head back in July... the head was retightened by hand and haven't had any issues since... has your issue resolved itself? is this something you check every day?

I, too have just started programming after being "just an operator" in February and now its August... can't say I know everything but I'm learning a lot. Let me know Thanks, Laura
