New to PCM

I'm new to the PCM option. Been programming for years and never used it. New Company and the customer wants us to use it, for specific applications. But I don't, fully, understand what it does. Can someone please break it down, stupid style, for me?
Thanks, in advance.

If you've been using formulas in the past, you've already used a part of PCM. PCM provides the same (plus some more) functions used in formulas, but you can also use them outside of (before or after) features/characteristics and in many other locations to perform extended calculations and queries similar to a programming language. Think of something like VBA in MS Office etc., but far less sophisticated.
In addition it allows you to read parameters from external files, so you can easily create programs for part families.

That's, kind of, what I gathered from the interwebs. I've been using formulas and PCM seems to be another way to skin the same cat just a little more complex. Thanks.
