[ad...] Posted April 14, 2021 Share Posted April 14, 2021 HI Guys, My team has recognised wear to the Vast XTR head, which has a gear around its opening for adaptor plates. The issue is when the styli is asked to rotate it will stop roughly 2/3rd of its rotation make a clicking sound and then correct itself but on the odd occasion it will enter the pockets at 90degrees causing a collision. My presumption is that the styli has been caught in rotation causing the shear(see image). Has anyone seen this issue before & have any advice how to rectify the issue or have you managed to buy a new housing piece? [Ri...] Posted April 14, 2021 Share Posted April 14, 2021 I cannot see the sheer that you are talking about. I have had issues where it didn't rotate correctly, it was either the stylus system was extremely off balance or the screw at the bottom of the head had come lose (this has happened more than once, so I tend to check it from time-to-time). That is not a gear - those are just serrations for positioning, but shouldn't have an impact on anything. The brass motor/coupling in the middle is what spins the plate. I have compared the spindle rotation of a good xtr-head and the one we are having issues with, the one with issues does not rotate as freely & occasionally slips. I was too afraid to touch it to adjust it though. Should the flat head screw be as tight as possible? Adam, I did have an issue that the machine rotated 90 degrees off location and didn't recognize its mistake, causing a collision. Happened twice about a year ago. But hasn't happened since. In general, I do not like how this probehead rotates, makes me cringe at least once a day when I hear it catch the probe and click like crazy.
