I was using an axis as the datum reference (same as Shabu) which produces the same result regardless of the fitting method applied to the considered feature.

Your example is using another plane as the datum reference. Yes, in this instance, a noticeable difference will be observed based on the fitting method applied. I would venture to say that this is a software bug more than anything. The other orientation controls do not seem to exhibit this behavior.

In the cookbook regarding perpendicularity of planes, it says the evaluation method should be LSQ, but in parentheses is says (only probing points are calculated.) So it would appear the fitting algorithm doesn't matter. They should just have that greyed out.
