Lighting?!?!?!

I was just curious. What does everyone do for lighting with their CMM's? The CMM I run is out in a shop and not in it's own room. The lighting in the shop it self is good. But I get a lot of shadows, I've been told to find something and get what I think would work. I thought about a small task light but I'm not sure. Anyone else have this issue?

I have about 5 fluorescent tubes on ceiling - i can say no shadows, but with white walls it's a quite eye pain.
For work with piece it is good, but for staring on monitor not so much 🙂

When i was on 3rd for so many years, my bosses would always come in and flip on the lights in the lab. I prefer to work in a dim room if at all possible, a half dozen monitors in sleep mode is fine enough for me.

I had a flexible task light with a magnetic base for a while. It held nicely to a 2-4-6 block. We have great lighting in the CMM labs, so I didn't use it a lot, but when I did it was great.

I had tubular white led lamps installed on Cmm devices. Perfect for the look but slightly tiring on the eyes.

Of course this is only for smaller CMMs, but gives a pretty good illumination of the measuring volume, and you can almost "stick" it into bores etc. when needed. And it's "cold" light because of the fiber tubes (not so important anymore with LEDs everywhere, but many years ago similar devices with halogene bulbs were like little ovens 😉 )

I do some inspections for Aerospace, which require a curtain amount of lumens. Not sure what they require, but yesterday I just had some new led lights put in the lab. I now almost need sunglasses and sunscreen. no more napping.

I've been pondering increased lighting in my facility as well. We have a Duramax in the lab, which has 2 fluorescents above on either side of the table, but with the Duramax, the Y-Axis is always directly over the part, making for dim and shadowed lighting.

I was thinking of adding a few rows of the LED strip lights to the underside of the Y-Axis and run the wires up through with the rest of the wires and out the back.
But what I was also just thinking, does the Duramax have any sort of internal AC to DC convertor that I can tie into for a 12V DC supply? Save me from having to run to a powerpack into an outlet.
