[Ke...]
Wondering if anyone has any experience using a pointed stylus(?) Looking for a way to measure a shallow groove, without resorting to purchasing/using a 0.2mm probe. Any insight would be appreciated. [Cl...]
I'm sure my response won't help, but I would imagine the you would treat it (qualify it) like a sheet metal probe.
[Ke...]
Please sign in to view this quote. While "pointed", it has a 0.1mm radius, so I was planning on qualifying, and using it, as a standard probe. I'm just looking for something that's a little more durable than a 0.2mm dia. ruby. [Cl...]
Sorry, didn't read the entire post. I jumped to a conclusion. 😃
[Se...]
Hello, we also use that kind of probe for one specific measurement (a small groove profile) It has an angle of 25° and R0,1 at the end. We got that from our customer with following information for the qualifying: 1st you qualify a small ball probe Ø1 with the same length then you do the geometry re-qualification with the actual pointed stylus and 120° sphere coverage. This stylus is quite good, but you won´t reach the same accuracy than with standard ball stylus.

[To...]
Back a couple of years ago, we had a request to do a demo using one of these probes to "scratch" timing lines on some glass lenses. Seemed to work ok. I was able to qualify the probe with a greatly reduce sphere coverage angle with VAST-XT head. But it wasn’t used for any measuring. [Se...]
Please sign in to view this quote. We check our cmms whith a short program measuring the ceramic calibrating ball Ø25. Here you can see the position in X,Y and Z and the diameter of our last 168 measurements. As you can see, we have 2 Stylus. It seems we had some incorrect measurements . Nevertheless the mean values are not realy impacted except for item 63 and 73 .pointed probes.jpg
[Er...]
I would look into how the diameter MIN is getting reported as near zero. Find out how that is happening first. Then take it from there.
