[Za...]
I'm having some issues getting an intersection to come in correctly. I can open a caliper to the nominal and the feature is right there, but Calypso is giving me something that fails. Is there anything I can do to manipulate the data to get it closer to nominal? Right now, I'm scanning each plane for my intersection, but I've tried points as well and that didn't work either. I've also tried with and without filtering/outlier removal. Thanks, Zach
[Za...]
Is there any way an alignment or evaluation method might help the result? Or maybe restricting degrees of freedom? I'm reaching here, I really don't know what else I can do and this is going to be a reoccurring thing with these older prints that need to be redrawn. [No...]
How do you measure the nominal with a caliper? Do you mean on the drawing? How much off is Calypso's result? Since you said it's an old drawing: Are you sure the nominal given isn't rounded in some way? I know that many of our designers have a bad habit of manipulating (rounding) some dimensions by hand, just to make them look better, but the real nominal (taken from the model) is different, sometimes stealing half of the tolerance. [BR...]
Do you know for sure that it is out? Could always double check by calculating a roll dimension and using a sine bar, indicator, planar gage, and gage blocks.
[To...]
If you're doing an intersection of 2 planes, you will get a 3d line. The origin of the line will be at one end but maybe not where you're checking it with calipers, especially if they are not "square" to each other. Since I don't know your orientation, you may have to modify to fit your application. Let's assume we're looking at the drawing from the -Y direction. The plane on the left side is facing -X and the angled plane on top is facing primarily in the +Z direction. Create a new plane. Go to Options and click Theoretical feature. Change the space axis to +Y. Edit the Y value to the Y of the cross section in the drawing, or the hole. In the intersection, add this plane as the 3rd feature. 2 planes create a line, the 3rd plane will intersect the line to make a point. This should be close to the result if you check the part at the same location.
