Replacement for basic system adjustment

Recommended Posts

Hello colleagues,

Is there any other option besides the basic system setting where I can combine the dimensions after reclamping the part?

I have many parts that I have to measure over several clamping operations, so the basic setting of the system is too cumbersome for me in the long run, because I always have to perform a manual probing when moving the part.

PCM is not available!

If I understand you well - you have two programs where each program is measuring another elements.

Some questions:
1. does both programs have same base alignment? If not, is model oriented same way in both programs?
2. can you measure something reliable in both programs?

If you answer triple NO then is no way to accomplish this.
If Q 1 is Yes ( or No then Yes ) then you can create one program where you make features. Name them same as in other programs.
So use unique name for two programs.
Then you can use measured points ( it's zip file ) where you can copy/paste measured data of elements to complete program.

Q 2 Yes - then you can do workaround.
I believe I have done this for surface blocking a bore of a part with a 2 sided program.

Calculate distance from top of inner surface to end of part Side 1
Calculate distance from top of inner surface to end of part Side 2

Subtract difference for inner surface thickness, etc.

Summary : Can you use a characteristic to reference it to for each clamping ?

If we had more info about the dimension and clamping we may be able to help further. Good luck!
I did something a while back that also require me to move my part. What I did is to locate a feature that could be measured from both locations on the part, then I think I used the result element to combine measures from the 2 locations accordingly. This was all done within one program by creating a program stop to hold the CMM while I moved my part, then it running a secondary alignment on the part in the new location. The main trick was trying to use the same features in each alignment in order to avoid stacking up of any deviations
Well, then create same base system for both programs. Also make same axis directions.
Then you possibly can join measured points from both programs ( just rename extension from zmp to zip, or open it in 7zip and copy content to main program points - just features, ignore those 2 folders ).

In main program have all features named exactly as in both programs and load measured points saved ( edited ) which you created earlier from 2 preprograms.

Unfortunately i am at home until monday, so i can not test it.
