[Ün...]
I did not experience stuck in keeping too many programs open, of course, this will vary according to the size of the programs. but if for some reason calypso freezes and you have to close it, you cannot save programs. [Th...]
Functionally, all that happens is Calypso occupies more system memory, which isn't a big deal if you have a reasonable RAM capacity. However, the only times I can recall managing to crash Calypso are when I load or switch measurement plans, so I habitually close them after I'm done to avoid accidentally losing hours of programming work that I probably forgot to save. [Am...]
I haven't had any issues having to many programs open, I generally don't have many when im programming on my offline seat but production doesn't close them when they are running and there will be a whole screen of programs and I haven't noticed any slow down in the software. They don't program or anything once I have programmed it and approved it for production (verified measurements are correct) I typically don't run them after they are out of the R&D phase. We make a ton of parts we have got something like 5000+ Zeiss programs and don't have time to be inspecting parts that we don't have any challenges with. They are IPIs (in process inspectors) and are on productions payroll but trained by quality department to run the inspection equipment which is not just CMMs.

We have 8 we were going to get another 2 this year but just holding off on spending the money now because of COVID until we see how it plays out. But the need is great and I think despite the COVID concerns we are about to get one in the next couple months.
[Da...]
I don't know of any issues of lagging, but, sometimes if someone opens a program on another machine it will cause problems with the file path for the report. Because we keep ours on a secure network it is actually easier to find a program, as each machine has its' own folder. I don't leave them open unless I know those parts are going to be coming in all day.
