Heal is usually only needed when you know your model quality is questionable due to converson(s) etc.
I use our company's original NX models for many years now and never had to heal any of them. But as soon as I receive, say, a STEP version of one of our parts back from a supplier who put it in his Calypso program and then saved as SAT (like Calypso does), the problems start. Only a few days ago I got one that made Calypso freeze when I started simulation. In the end I found out that the part was no longer a proper part, but had become a huge amount of single surfaces. I don't know if Calypso's healing function can fix problems like this, but I doubt it.The key is to have a good quality model before feeding it to Calypso.

We have run into issues with DXF files. When the model is spit out of a CAM software instead of CAD software, the arcs are a bunch of tiny straight lines instead of an arc. Calypso does not process this well. You can't Heal that either, you just need to ask for a model from CAD instead. I typically heal all models first. Too much healing can cause issues.
