This happens anytime the probe moves in CNC. It happened when I tried to qualify
styli using CNC probing system qualification. No clearance plane involved there.

The dark side of this...your heads going bad. Or the scale reader has issues.
Orrrrr your air bearing(s) are dirty. Try running your programs at a slower speed...80, 160.
Check under the cowlings make sure no wires, -any stuff- are hitting the end-of-travel switches.
The last idea is a reach 🙄
If it's the head you will start having probe change issues.

It homes normally, I tried that this morning. This Contura has been on the shop floor without an enclosure for more than two years.
The shop environment is not too bad, but this machine is next to several Citizen lathes, and centerless grinders. I can wipe oil off of the surface plate weekly. I've been on management the whole time to get an enclosure. It goes up within the next week, or so. It maybe too late?

Talk to Zeiss first. If you disturb those scales they'll need to take the machine out to reset them.
Better yet tell, (nicely), management that they need to schedule the full Monty on this machine.
Get the bearings cleaned, (that's where I think your problem is), everything.

Good, but I still think it needs a cleaning beyond what you or I can manage. I've had air bearing issues just like you describe.
Runs o.k. slowly but at high speed the bearing "dives" hitting the table.
The environment you describe adds all kinds of particles into the air. I also work near millers and lathes. Both running water coolant and oil. It's all over the place.
How are your filters on the controller? That should give you an idea of what's floating around.

  • 1 year later...
I ran into this Status Window error again today. I finally figured out that one stylus position
got qualified on the wrong sphere, so FYI, that's another potential reason for this error.

Denatured alcohol can dry and leave a thin whitish film. Its why its not used in most Aerospace and semiconductor manufacturing.
Isopropyl alcohol is best.
I've worked on jobs where Denatured alcohol wasn't allowed in the same area as product.
