Recalibrating a moved machine.

We are getting a new CMM. We have to shuffle one machine to get it to fit in.
My boss wants to know if we have to re-calibrate the one we move. He'll get it done if necessary.
I told him I can level it but not sure about whether the calibration is needed. Zeiss sales man says yes, must be done.
Any thoughts.

I suggest you get it re-calibrated. Also, be aware that moving the machine without using Zeiss voids your warranty if I remember correctly. My company found that out the hard way.

The move is being done by the movers when they bring in the new machine. Blessed by Methods up here in Ma.
I'm glad that you guys feel this way. Third, fourth and sixth opinions always count. (Not too crazy about the fifth šŸ˜‰

I think one problem will be that the service tech may be in there to calibrate the new machine but may not calibrate the old machine if it wasn't on the schedule. Do you still have my email address?

We had the same situation with our last CMM purchase. We had a Zeiss tech come in to move the older machine before the new one arrived. The tech did the as-found calibration tests before the move, then he supervised the moving team to make sure it was done correctly, then he leveled the machine and did the as-left calibration in the new location.

I'm not sure how the process is going to go. I've since talked to my supervisor. We will get it done.
It will get calibrated.
Tom, Terry is in the loop so all is good.
Peter, that may be tough I'll talk to my super. Everything will be moved at once. But I wouldn't be afraid of "as found" being out since the move will be the reason.

As far as balancing the machine I can use the coffee pot method.
Get a glass pot, fill it half way, put it on the rock and adjust till the water line is even in any position.
I picked this up from one of the Zeiss techs.
I just wish he'd bring his own coffee pot.
It doesn't work on balancing car tires though. I tried. I could hardly hold on to the steering wheel afterwards.

If the Pats and Bucs were in the Super Bowl, and there was 2 minutes on the clock and the Pats were up by 6, and TB had the ball, first and 10 on their own 12 yard line, Iā€™d hope the last play would be a pass into the end zone and.......
