how much do I use PCM?

Took the basic class. I will admit that I struggled with it. I'm getting better, but
still a novice. We have many "Part Families", so PCM comes in handy for that.

I do like having PCM, as I enjoy a challenge.

My comment was more related to the fact that some users (or many) feel comfortable without the PCM license.

There isn't much general information (that I can find) about PCM, and it's hard to justify purchasing without knowing its applications & uses, and it's hard to justify training just to find out what it can & can't do. Zeiss should do more webinars on the software add-ons, so companies can make more informed decisions.

Well, we have several single parts that grow in size. The geometry stays exactly
the same, they just get bigger. PCM allows you to write just one program, then
create parameter files for each sizes nominals.

Program starts, you are prompted with the choice of part numbers, and based on
your choice, the nominals are updated, the model changes. So instead of writing
20 programs, I write one.

I have a short list in my mind of uses in our programs:

- Generate single programs for multiple sizes.
- Build geometry of curves (without CAD model).
- Rebuild curves based on actual values.
- Generate conditions for shorter inspections (in combination with miniplan).
- Generate multiple alignment Options.
- Evaluate points with external applications; systemCallWithWait() is great we have some applications that simulate product functionality and send the data back to calypso.
- Generate hardware, user and customer data in order to use it as measuring attributes for sorting or audit.
- Synchronize the results with SQL server (not necessary PCM but is easier).
- Reduce the size of the ZMP files.
- Generate STD date format for different language configurations.
- Read user/std fields (attributes) automatically from a server or text files.
- Keep the calypso monitor open.
- Delete temporary files automatically.
- Generate custom Piweb protocols according to the options selected in the measuring.

FYI for those newer to Calypso, I haven't had access to PCM in 6 years but, some of the capabilities without it can be done with Macro programming.
I haven't had a need to use marco's in a long time either as about everything I do are one-off or limited but, there's a million ways to skin a cat and the cat doesn't want to pay for any of them. 🤣

I'd like to get it to learn more and i find myself running into things it wont let me do without a license. I can't believe i can't have a break condition for my base alignment loops without the pcm license for example, very annoying. But at the same time I don't know enough about what i am missing to make a case to my employer to purchase the license so it would be a hard sell. I can get most things done with the formulas but would like to explore PCM in the future.

Anyone have any examples of more advanced PCM functions that I could use as a selling point to a company who loves the idea of 2 second improvements and anything that increases efficiency?
