Simple Distance Vs Caliper Distance

Hey guys,

Can someone help me understand the difference between a simple distance and a caliper distance please? Looking at just measuring a feature that is purely in the "Y" direction.

Thanks!

You cannot use a Plane inside of a Simple Distance.

For the most part though there are no differences between the Caliper Distance and the Simple Distance other than the Caliper Distance is more expanded in its ability to use more features, and to do min/max distances.

The difference between the Caliper/Simple Distance versus say the Cartesian Distance is that the alignment for the Cartesian Distance is built from the two features (in your case where you have a Plane and a Circle). The software would created a Perpendicular Line between the Plane, and the center of the Circle. The alignment is square to the features.

The Caliper/Simple Distance is alignment dependent. It will default to the Base Alignment, but you can use any secondary alignment. This forces the distance to be square to an alignment, and not the features themselves. This can be beneficial in some cases, and deceptive in other.
