Need some help with 3d contour and no cad/dwg

Hi everyone,

New here but seems like the place to get / share some good knowledge from people who do this stuff everyday. My question is regarding how to extract a curve from a unknown part with no cad or dwg.

I was able to get a 2d contour to work and save a .stp file to create the cad I needed but on this new part I need to extract a 3d curve from the part and I can't figure out how to make the function work. I attached a picture of the part, I want to scan the sweeping curve on the side to recreate the shape.

I know I need to specify 6 points I just don't know where its asking me to probe for it to scan correctly. Can anyone help me out?

If it's not specified on drawings then you can use unknown contour.

I would try to scan around Z axis to get contour, then change nominals outwards sides to get to middle of sweeping surface.
Then change vectors to upwards. Then scan curve.
Or scan it like many unknown curves and then join all to one

Yeah 2 points each for 6 total points.

I am just unsure on where to probe the actual part for each. Maybe you can mark up the photo? that would be really helpful.

I am out of machine until monday, but on forum are some screenshots of unknown conture window.
Basicly you touch from one side to another and put scan around Z axis to finally scan part all around.
It needs only 2 points, but in same height / depth. You can use 2d curve.
Do you have probe able to scan swivel from Z+ or star-like probe?

I did this a few years ago and took some notes that I'll post with a few illustrations.
Only record I have on converting the points into cad-software (solidworks) is that I did it but didn't complete making a model out of it. Note in the instructions to "be" sure to select "stylus correction after turning digitalizing on. You can correct the nominals afterward if you forget to select "stylus correction" but, it's just more work.
If you can't get what you want out of it, I'd try doing different sections with 2D curve. You can use 3D curve to scan a 2D curve and it gives you more capabilities than using 2D curve.
