[Cl...]
Not so much a problem anymore, but a tip for those that me run into this problem in the future. Our Contura was abruptly stopping and shutting the drives off in the middle of a run. Zeiss came in and found that the oil that holds on the scales had leaked onto the scale. His fix was to clean the scale with contact cleaner and one of those blue paper towel shop rags (less debris/lint).normally I use a Q-tip and denatured alcohol. The techs method seems to work much faster/better, just FYI.

What is Q-Tip?. I don't clean the scale, zeiss engineer came and clean yearly as a part of AMC. I would use cotton with IPA.

I once remembered a tech showing me how to pull open the software that they have to test the reader signal, so that you can see if you have a dirty scale or not. It's a good practice to keep the visible scales clean as they will get dirty. Alcohol works great, but never use acetone as it will leave a film, and cause re-occurring issues. The viscous oil that holds the scales to the ceramic ways can get on the scale, or reader heads.

[Ün...]
We noticed that oil came into the device many years ago due to the oily air coming from the air compressor in the company. I almost washed the device with cleaning alcohol. Now I bought the separate dryer for the device and I have rooted the problem. My technicians periodically clean them with alcohol. Remember that dust in the environment will scratch the rulers. It should be cleaned once in a while
[Ma...]
We have4x filters for oil remover ( one with carbon ) to reduce oil in air + Accuras 2-3 filters. I clean almost daily move paths - not because of dust, but sometimes some chips get into way. We had one incident few months ago - air bearing has been changed.
