[Ja...]
How do I dimension a line profile on a circle or a line? The only options available in my routine appear to be the option to create a new 2D and 3D curve.
[Ma...]
I think that line profile can be setted for circle. Anyway you can create empty 2d curve and recall points from circle strategy ( but don't forget to clear measured points or you will recall measured data )
[Ri...]
Please sign in to view this quote. You have to extract the curve from the cad model first otherwise the nominals will not be correct.

[Ma...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I tried that strategy to create curve for rounded corner ( 2d line -> circle -> 2d line ) and it worked. If you have CAD model, then it's easier to create curve from model, but if you don't have it and you have fully described then you can create it like i mentioned. Just watch for vectors. [Me...]
Please sign in to view this quote. How would you get the correct nominals from an unknown contour to calculate the profile?
[SH...]
Please sign in to view this quote. Then what will the poor fellows do, who don't have cad model. I remember in the curve Manuel few more option to add the nominal, CAD model is not the only option but that are extremely difficult compared to CAD model.. [Ri...]
If you don't have a CAD model, you have to either manually bring in the nominal points via ascii text file, manually enter them, or generate the curve using a "golden part".
[Ma...]
Honestly, no one tried my approach? Just create circle, define strategy then create empty 2d curve and recalculate from circle feature.
[Ja...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I just got back from the customer, and I had issue with getting this to work correctly due to the reasons listed above about not having nominal information even though my circle was generated from the CAD model. I had to generate the curve from the CAD model, and then recalled my features ( circles / lines) into that empty curve. After I did this it finally worked. I'm sure I could of just create actual curves at that point, but I didn't want to rerun the fixture at this point. I'm at a loss for words for how complex Calypso is making this. The dimension is literally called Line Profile, and you cannot use a line.
[Ma...]
Please sign in to view this quote. If I'll have free time tomorrow then I'll try some of our models to make curves from features. I create some curves where i didn't have model, but I had fully described features ( for circle i hade center, radius and and angles ), then I defined strategy ( mostly just range and number of points ). After this i recalled and recalulated circle and i had nominals for curve. I just corrected vectors and direction of scan. It always worked for me. Could you specify how you have drawn that circle? [Me...]
You can absolutely create an accurate curve from a circle. As you stated, you just need to make sure that the nominals of the recalled circle are correct and that there are no actuals when you recall it. Allow it to recalculate the nominal geometry when you recall it and you're good to go. This works for all prismatic and primitive features. Curve just recalls the nominal surface points and doesn't care about the evaluation method of the feature or what shape it is. You can go the other way also, recalling a curve into a circle. However, it recalls ball center data, so your form error will be the same, but the size wont because it's using surface points with no radius compensation. Not very useful, but can be used to check roundness and other form characteristics for reference. Edited to clarify... you can recall a curve into a circle and have the correct size as long as you run the curve first and then recall it into the circle and allow it to recalculate the nominals. Then you have to clean up the nominals. If you recall a curve with no nominals into a circle and have it recalculate the nominals before running the curve, after you run the curve the circle will be the wrong size because of radius compensation. [Is...]
You can create any geometry without the CAD model, just is necessary to know the math formula (everything is in google). Is not difficult just need PCM. (for lines is necessary to select 3d curves): viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2133 viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3281 viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2046&start=
