Duramax won't move after a crash

Hope everyone is having a great day, I just got a call from one of our inspectors (im working from home today) and they are telling me someone crashed the Duramax pretty bad. Somebody manually put a probe on the and did not do the "pick up probe" function. Walked away and someone tried to run their program which went to load a different stylus system and crashed the probe it had on the into the one in the holder. They said it wouldn't budge and couldnt get the probe off, I told them to just remove the probe rack and then get the probe off which they did but prior to this I guess someone was trying to pull the head back by hand 🙄 they are saying now it has moved all the way up in Z and does not want to move, if they restart the machine it asks to go to home position and if they hit ok calypso throws up the red light and has a collision in the status window and will not move at all.

I've told them to try to connect to the machine which they did and same thing happened. I won't be back in the office until after tomorrow and im just trying to see if i can come up with a couple things to try before I go back in. Im going to call the Zeiss tech in (he just calibrated it a couple months ago too) but in the mean time is there anything I can try?

I may be wrong, but I believe if you press the "clear" and "drives" buttons on your controller simultaneously for about 3-4 seconds, it overrides the drives, allowing you to manually jog the CMM away from an obstacle.

The Z axis has a manual override button that you can depress on the side of the column, there's a hole on the side of the cover to access the button (use the eraser end of a pencil to push the button). Just be sure to hold the column when you depress the button as it cuts the air supply off that holds it in place and it will free fall! As for the X and Y axis I believe you can manually move those by hand, there is no override. Be sure to push on the side with the accordion covers not the column side for the Y axis!!

I have some info in manual of Accura how to cover situations when is machine on end pos. check.
In Z axis i have to pull head - it won't free fall. But on Duramax it can be different.

This is only for machines that are air-driven - like the Accura/Prismo. This doesn't apply to the DuraMax as it is a mechanical driven machine.

FYI:
My opinion is that the Duramax's are fairly resilient to this.
On 3 or 4 occasions over the last couple years on our duramax's ,we've had happen exactly what you're describing with the probe being loaded into a bay with a probe already in it.
Every time, I was able to slowly move it off or pop the stylus off the head and found that the adapter plate was bent a little. Straightened the bent section out best we could and it qualified and ran just fine. I did have to replace one like six months later because the head wouldn't recognize it anymore for some reason, probably something wrong in the circuit board section of it 164_d3a93b5b3875663d5b0b980f1dc798b9.jpg

Don't worry, I read manual - only one problem - described position of hole is wrong - better to take down cover to see where is right position ( from bottom to up ) 😉

Well I guess I learned something new today. I thought all CMM's were created equal 🤣 I'm using a Prismo 12/42/10

It's done use well. We have a Mazak Integrex lathe/mill that turns out some large shafts that need 100% inspection so in this case so size DOES matter lol
