Stylus to the racks...

Have any of you ever had an issue with the CMM not putting the probes back into the rack correctly. This Duramax we have leaves some of the probes hanging out a little bit. We have to push them all the way in with our finger. Doesn't happen all the time. Picks up and stores fine most of the time.

My experience was with a vast xxt, I had one probe that was doing exactly what you describe. I cleaned it, re-taught it, still had the problem. I put it in a different pocket and it worked fine after that. We have a spectrum that has a probe that will only work in one pocket.Try switching your probes around.

We have a location on our rack which tends to do this very often. At first we thought it were the disc which were the issue so I bought a new, and for half a year it worked perfect, but then it started happening again now. We have bought a new - againwhich is a the new "type" which an application engineer told might be better.
The only difference I see is that the small steel balls is now gold instead of chrome.
Haven't had the time to install it yet.

What kind of environment do you run these in? Lately I've been seeing stylus storage problems on our shop Duramaxes a lot more, and it seems to be due to an increase in the amount of airborne mill coolant depositing on the underside of the racks. There's just enough adhesive force from the coolant that, combined with the light weight of XXT stylus systems and the (in my opinion, too short) retract of the sensor, is causing the styli to hang long enough to be caught by the cover.

The Duramax is on a shop floor surrounded by CNC machines. There is grinding/de-burring happening by the CMM. They have downdraft tables that work at, but the CMM and racks do get dusty. I wiped all the stylus holders down with a clean paper cloth and some alcohol. The racks are pretty old and some are kinda beat-up. They all have good spring loaded movement and do not show any kind of binding up. I've been thinking about replacing all three racks, but will probably replace them with the Q-Mark ones. $1100.00 vs $1600.00.
