[Me...]
Yesterday I dropped the joystick for the first time in almost 15 years of programming, cracking the warranty seal on the back. Anyone else done this before?
[Cl...]
I have, (tripped over the cord) also the EPROM inside fell out of the socket. I had to open the box and re-insert the chip.

Not me, but our invisible co-worker named "Nobody" did that a couple of times. 🙄 Our newest replacement box doesn't feature a seal at all (I mean the ones with the small tube turning red) - at least none that's visible on the outside. [Ch...]
I have one that when you shake it you can hear parts rattling around inside. Also, it will start beeping at you if you smack it. Still works like a champ. I have 3 old joystick boxes. If you call the hotline, then Zeiss will tell you that they don't work and you need to order a new one. I had a technician test all 3 of them and they all will work. Technician said that most will work just fine even if it is not "Zeiss recommended". [Gr...]
We dropped a part on one of our controllers and broke the speed rheostat and surrounding area. An electronics shop down the street from us offered to look at it and possibly repair it. It was successful. Rheostat does not look factory but darn thing works flawlessly after the worked on it. I believe they charged $200.

[Th...]
Pretty sure the wireless control panel is one of the selling features on at least one of the MMZ machines, so they do make it. Sounds like a question for whoever handles retrofits. Turns out it's the Accura, not the MMZ, at least according to the product page. [Ro...]
did the "right to repair" thing ever go anywhere? It was a very big legislation that was being considered, covering everything from farm machinery to consumer electronics and just about everything in between. I never read the whole thing but the gist was that buyers of products (as the name implies) had the right to repair items themselves without voiding warranties, and those warranty stickers were at the root of the lawsuit. I remember seeing some youtube videos where people who bought John Deere combines were having troubles with their machines, but they couldn't access any of the software or ports in the electronics and JD said "you have to get your service done at an approved JD dealership" and these guys were like "I got crops that need to be pulled right now, i dont have 2 to 3 weeks to wait for you to fix my S when i already know what's wrong with it". and these small time farmers were taking JD to court. [Ch...]
Please sign in to view this quote. I know Illinois passed something like this. I'm not sure if that is a federal law yet. Half of the people here are farmers so I'll ask around. Edit: I just googled and I think they killed it here in Illinois. I remember it being a big stink around here and I just assumed it passed. That's sketchy.
[Ro...]
Yeah if i remember right those big new farm machines don't even have OBD2 ports like all cars since the mid 90's have had to have, so when your new 9XXX tractor dies you have to physically tow it out of the field, take the wheels off, load it onto a lowboy, and take it to be repaired at the dealership. (just to find out that your tractor switched into limp mode because it was due for the 3000 hour service)

It's pretty much a necessity on large bridge/gantry machines, but you can get them on almost any machine. They are pricey, but they are nice. [Mi...]
I use industrial Velcro to attach mine above the main power switch on the Y axis on my Contura after my supervisor knocked off the last one I had. it wont fall on the floor but I can easily remove it to move closer to parts I manually check.
