[Cl...]
I'm thinking about investing in and off-line seat of Calypso, and programming on my off time. I'd like your input on what you think the markets like for getting work. I'd start off with Calypso w/o curve/freeform or PCM (because of the cost) I know that will limit what I can do for the customer, but I figure I'd start there and if things take off, then I'd invest in the those extra options. I've done some programming on the side, and is was quite profitable. However this was at their facility, so I'm wondering how receptive customers would be to the off-line programming as opposed to "on-site"? I'm guessing that with the pandemic, they might prefer the off-site option?

[An...]
i would simply make a cost calculation of how many customers you need in a month so that the purchase of offline calypso + options will pay for itself in 6-12 months
[Ri...]
I didn't know we can buy an offline seat as a stand alone?
[Cl...]
Pretty sure you can. I think Richard Helle is in the off-line programming business?
[Ro...]
Good luck. I'm also interested in doing that, but since i'm not an "entrepreneur" and have never taken any interest in sales, i wouldn't even know the first things to do to get myself out there. What i do know is there are a ton of small shops in the mid michigan area that could probably use some programming help but don't necessarily have the continuous workload to justify a full time programmer. If you don't already know it, i think learning PC-D would be huge.
[Mi...]
Yes, you can. I just read an offer by Zeiss for 3 months free access to offline planner. I guess you can then purchase it after if you are impressed, I don't know what a seat costs. I do all my work on an off line seat then load it onto a network for the operators (which usually ends up as me). As I get older and closer to early retirement age, I wonder about whether or not there would be a serious market for a stand alone programmer. I don't exactly understand where jobs would come from. Would a person have to form an LLC and canvas for jobs?
[Cl...]
I was sent to the PCD class a few years ago. We have an Optiv. My skill level is beginner.
[Cl...]
I have done some contract work off hours for my former employer. I charged them twice my hourly pay. They cut me a check, and gave me a 1099. That work paid for a trip to London.
