I showed this to the ex Cat guys that work here because I thought it would impress them. They said that is nothing compared to the big one in Decatur for the 797's.

So are large ones like these basically custom-made by Zeiss? Is their hardware modular enough that they can basically scale it up to whatever size you need, made-to-order?

Haha! Thank you everyone! I just thought I'd see if I could arouse a little CMM envy. She's not the biggest or the baddest, but she's fun. Measurement volume is X: 2500 Y: 5000 Z: 2000. Repeatability seems to be somewhere around 8 microns or so. The concrete pad it lives on is isolated in its own 9ft "pit" with self-leveling air bladders; a far cry from the little Zeiss Eclipse I learned on.

What's really fun is performing gage cals on this thing (or measuring any small part). It feels like deer hunting with a tank.

Seriously, it's an impressive machine, but i prefer spending my Saturdays with the Wife or riding my bicycle!

Cook, it's what we call a blue-catfish.
They're great to fry and eat.
