[Me...]
At home I use Malwarebytes. Recommended by Best buy. Probably the kickback of the week. At work we use Trend Micro over the network but you can get a stand alone. Mcafee, Norton, Bitdefender, take your pick. I'd stay away from AVG. My personal, (home), experience with them was dismal. At first they were great. Then they were bought out and the new company was only interested in money. Spamming my computer with popups to purchase more items. I had to change my debit card because I couldn't find a way to cancel my subscription. The website just looped you around if you tried. Maybe there better now that was three years ago. Anyway the one negative thing I've found is that with most of these is that over time they bloat. Takes an uninstall and reinstall to gain back some of your computers speed. I experience it here with Trend. Have had the tech take it out then put it back to clear out the cobwebs through the network. About once every two years. [Th...]
Both Ian and Kevin are correct. Windows Defender is much more competent than it used to be, and Bitdefender is actually the engine that runs whatever it is Quick Heal provides. Without an IT-managed system, though, I'd suggest actively minimizing your exposure. Don't casually browse the Internet from the controlling machine, don't plug in USB drives found in the parking lot, etc. and make sure whatever AV you use can fetch updates. AV software is only there to catch what slips by you. Alternatively, don't network the machine at all. You can't remotely install malware on an airgapped computer. [To...]
We have had an issue with our antivirus were it put two Calypso files in quarantine and deleted them afterwards, which caused that Calypdo couldn't be run. I know that short after another danish company had the exact same issue. I do not remember which program we are using, but when I get to my working computer I can add it to this thread. [Am...]
Windows defender should be fine, do you really even need much protection on the Zeiss computer? I would just keep that PC running Calypso if you need to browse the internet do it from a separate PC you aren't just going to get a virus by chance and if you are just using the computer to run Calypso there shouldn't really be much issue. We run our programs of the network so it is connected to the internet but I've disabled browsers on there because there is no need for it, everyone has there own computer that would need to be looking anything up. Pretty much if you stay of the internet and dont install shady third party software on there you should be fine with any free antivirus software.
