Space Point Vector

Lets say I have some sort of complex surface with some datum targets on it. The datum targets are located via basic dimensions but due to the curvature of the surface, the vector will change depending on where exactly the point is. So if I select a space point on the surface its hard to get the precision needed with a mouse click. Is there any way to have calypso automatically calculate the vector based on the location of the points on the model?

I have faced this problem lot of time, what I do that I change the coordinate value and vector direction cosine of the point according to my requirement. It was worked well..

I have not worked with freeform surface,so I don't know it will work for you.

Could you generate 2d curves through the model along the coordinates of the datum points, then just delete the in-wanted points?
Then use the remaining curve points vectors and coordinates to create your nominal points.

I do this all the time on supercharger rotors.

section your model with CAD>Create features. make sure your section goes thru exactly where you want the point.

Then find the point that is in the spot that you want and record the nominal position and vectors. Finally, insert a space point and change the nominal positions and vectors.

That's exactly what I was looking for.You dont even have to do that. You can just create a space point, put in the XYZ, and the correct vectors come out when its created. 412_2fa18748bd51d380e17adf8bdc5f5718.jpg

If you want to create all of the target points at one time, create a list of points in a text file (tab delimited) and read it into calypso using Cad >> Creating Features >> Point Set. The points will default to "Cad Face Point", so you will have to change the settings manually (if needed).

This works very well. The problem is sometimes, the numbers on the drawing have been rounded to a reasonable number of places. This function will put the point on the model, as close to the numbers as possible. Generally, it will be "close enough".
