Desire VS Ability

The desire to help, versus the ability to do so; I often find myself wishing I could be more helpful on this forum, but my skills are intermediate at best. That being said, I've noticed a few members who tend to rush in offering "answers" that, more often than not, are barely related to the question being asked. I don't know, just thought I'd rant for a moment. My apologies!

I often have little time available when reading through the forum so, I know I'm guilty of making quick suggestions occasionally or misinterpreting the question all together.

However, I come from a time when there wasn't a lot of answers provided here and believe that something is often better than nothing 🤣

Add in the fact that some questions are really vague, it's easy to make assumptions.

How many times have you asked a question and even though an answer didn't have anything to do with your question, you learned something you didn't know anyhow. 🙂 .

Nobody is perfect and if they were, they wouldn't be here asking questions.

I've definitely seen it on some topics but overall its a pretty small community and I don't mind knowing at least someone is looking at it or trying to help. I chime in sometimes even when its been solved just to provide a different view. Often times I see some good contributions and save them even if its nothing relating to what im working on but seems like a useful thing to know in the future.

Yeah, that crappie was 14", which is rare in these parts.

Willing to help is a good sign, doesn't matter wheather it is off topic or on topic.

I have seen good off topic from Andreas, even though I don't understand what he is talking about... 🤣

Wow! I took a few days vacation and this thread really took off! As for an answer, no one in this thread is "guilty" of what I'm suggesting, but it's just the sentiment I get occasionally while browsing the forum. There are, without doubt, some seriously talented guys (and gals) here. I'm always keen to see what Tom, Owen, Roberto, Brett, etc. have to say and offer.

Whats your malfunction?

However, I sort of agree with the OP.
1) Solve the question literally, if possible. Or ask for more info if not understandable. (most times you dont know why someone wish to do something specific. Directly suggest something else is just frustrating for OP.)

2) Suggest something else if better and more appropriate. Not because you can.

I would also like to see posts of links to previous posts solving the same question, instead of a copy/paste of the answer again and again. Many times the original post contains other useful misc info that now get lost.
But thats just wishful thinking related to some dev communitys..

😃
