SPEEDING UP CMM RUN TIME

Good Morning,

Anyone have any ideas on how to speed up the CMM other then the mm per second speed adjustment. Has anyone minimized the prehit or retract distance to speed the run time or used any other strategies?

Reducing the retract distance goes a long way to reduce time per point. As long as machining accuracy is relatively consistent, you can get as close as you want.

I'm still a "newbie", i have more experience with PCDMIS than Calypso.
Care to enlighten me where i can edit those?

The easiest and fastest way to do this would be to go to resources-> feature settings editor (there is also a button below the toolbars for a faster way to get to it)

Go to travel on the drop down menu, select retract distance. Here, you can change all of your retract distance for all features all at once.

The slower way would be to go into each feature's strategy individually, double click on clearance plane, and adjust it there.

Just so it has been mentioned: Depending on the geometry, the consistent use of clearance groups can also speed things up tremendously. While I'm of the opinion that this should be a given part of a good programming style, a now retired colleague of mine almost never used them. It sometimes drove me nuts when I had to watch the stylus diving deep into a long part only to take one single point, then travelling all the way out again, then in once again for yet another point, and so on. 🤣

I inherited 100s of programs from a sister plant of ours. Every single feature had a +Z clearance plane. Not a single sub clearance, or CMM position move. Drove me absolutely nuts. Can easily halve the time of longer programs.
