Is the 8.0mm reference sphere the smallest one that Zeiss makes?
If so, does anyone know were I can find one smaller than 8.0mm?

8mm is the smallest I've ever seen on the web shop, so I doubt they make one smaller. I know Q-Mark sells a 5mm ruby sphere on a M6-thread base, which they advertise as intended for qualification purposes, but I have no experience with that segment of their product line.

By the looks of the Zeiss Store, 8mm is the smallest. I have a custom L probe consisting of a 0.3mm held on a 90mm probe extention with a set screw. I use an 8mm to qualify that.

What about using an old probe? Turn a 4mm probe upside down and measure it for size and form. Now that the size and form is known, you can use that as a small reference sphere.

Just an idea.
