[Gr...]
I have some castings that had a blip when a cylinder was machined. The cylinder now has some small rings that are 0.04 mm proud of the surface. Callouts are diameter 60 +/- 0.5 mm and Ra 3.2. The rings are well within the diameter envelope, and that cylinder is assembled by clamping a rubber tube on it, so the bosses want to try to sell them. When I try to measure the surface roughness I get either an error or around 2.2. The pin is traveling over the ring, so there is obviously some form/waviness filtration happening when I get an in-spec roughness. I am not sure if the parts are technically bad or not. They are functional, and I cannot find what specification they are in violation of, but they are obviously not perfect or what was intended. Please help.
