[Me...] Posted April 5, 2018 Share Posted April 5, 2018 I am using Calypso 5.2 Version 5.2.04. I have created a scan around a perimeter of an unknown profile which starts and stops in the same place. I want to export this scan as points in to Solid-Works so the engineer can use the profile for reverse engineering purposes. I have tried numerous times but nothing seems to work, is there an add on which I need to purchase to allow me to do this or is there some setting I'm missing? I have been using Calypso for about a year now after coming from PC-Dmis for over 12 years, I have been muddling through as there is no one at work with in depth knowledge. [Ow...] Posted April 5, 2018 Share Posted April 5, 2018 Not sure I understand what you mean by the actual curve. As long as you chose to export the "actuals xyz"(not the nominals) the engineer can use the same points to insert into Solidworks by going to, insert, curve, curve though xyz points and then the points will be inserted into solidworks as a spline and can be compared to nominal splines or curves already in solidworks. You don't need to export the IJK vectors unless it's a 3D curve. If he/she needs any help doing the inserting into solidworks, let me know, I do it all the time. [Ch...] Posted April 5, 2018 Share Posted April 5, 2018 Owen, As always I need your help. I've just got solidworks on my computer. I've been playing around with it and really like it. I mostly use it to 3d print simple stuff but I'd like to start pulling in my XYZ point sets into solidworks to really do some analysis. As always, I'm working with supercharger rotors. [Ow...] Posted April 5, 2018 Share Posted April 5, 2018 Chad, if you haven't taken it, look around for a solidworks essentials class and take it. A week long course that will get you going with solidworks and save a lot of trial an error learning. As as far as importing the points, it's not hard but can sometimes be cumbersome unitil you get the hang of it. For a 2D curve (I haven't imported 3D curve yet). 1) Open Solidworks (for some reason ,for best results, should be in metric units), go to insert at the top menu, select curve, curve thru XYZ points, select the browse button and find the text file you just made with Calypso and if you don’t see it in the solidworks browse window, you’ll have to go to the lower right hand tab and select text and csv files for it to show up so you can select it. 2) After selecting the file, make sure you see the curve correctly on the screen first. After you see the curve and it’s aligned with the coordinate axis correctly, select ok (not insert). - Sometimes solid works will say it won’t accept it because the curve has intersecting points, If it does, try selecting the 1st couple of points and deleting them and try again, if it doesn’t work then, then the only thing I could recommend is recreating the curve on the CMM with less points (scanning) or switch to take single points, which takes a lot longer but, the points will output much cleaner than scanned points do with the affects of the filters screwing it up sometimes. 3) Once the curve is accepted, open up a new sketch, select the plane that is parallel to the plane you’re placing it on and then click on the curve and select convert entities to make each point in the spline measurable. I will sometimes import my points files into excel and clean them up a bit and then you can also move the X, Y,Z columns around to match the X,Y,Z plane axis you are working on in solidworks and then save the excel file as a tab delimited file (txt file) so you can import it into solidworks. I have multiple perimeter scans is there a way to combine these in to one file so that can be imported into Solid Works? I used to be able to create a dxf file in PC-DMIS and export that. [He...] Posted April 16, 2020 Share Posted April 16, 2020 Unfortunately, I found only one way of doing this. Make one single .txt file and copy/paste the data from all of your results into one file. Then load that one file into SW. This image is 9 files in 1. I know this is a late response, but I just got on here.
