There is no place for that here. No place for ego's, check that at the door. Why can't there be civil discourse, instead of arguments? Sometimes I think we forget why we are using the forum. This forum has a much more professional edict than most other forums(for that we should be thankful). I think it may be taking some of the newer members longer than usual to conform to the forum's group think. I forgot to add one important caveat. With both the older and newer members, we have some really great minds here. We should all feel fortunate and realize how valuable this group of bright minds is. That being said, great minds do not always equal great personalities. Most of the science/number type people I I know are not worried about how what they say makes other people feel. They say that humans learn best when in the zone of proximal development. The zone of proximal development resides on the border of order and chaos. I've started to see this forum turn more into discussions that happen on Facebook/Twitter/Reddit. We should all be grateful that we have this ability to converse with one another, and let's not ruin it because of egos or immaturity. People who seem intelligent, educated, and pretty arrogant. There have been a few conversations recently that, pretty quickly, drifted from answering a question, to people trying to prove their answer is best, by insulting anyone else who also offered an answer. I just hope "the new kids" calm down before the next batch of people get back from basic training and create accounts. I'd hate for people to think this is how all of us are. [Am...] Posted May 8, 2020 Share Posted May 8, 2020 I think the Quarantine is getting to people, on the bright side it seems everyone on here has gotten to keep their jobs or work from home. Someone mentioned on here that its starting to get a little more like discussions on social media sites and I agree there seems to be an uptick of casual conversations on here. I just wanted to point out to people there is other sections on this forum like the Off-Topic board viewforum.php?f=6 we could always star using that more, I think the Zeiss Calypso board is the most viewed so people tend to post everything here.
