Automated CMM?

So I was asked today, can the CMM run an automated qualification of the probes. Some thing that could happen on its own with no human interaction. I have never heard of the CMM being able to do something automated. An operator needs to give it a command, and then it goes and performs that command.

Any thoughts on this.....

CMM is designed by humans for the the goodness of mankind, so nothing will happen in cmm without the interaction of human unless, the human is invaded from the Earth and the robots we would see the movie like transfomer might start control the earth.......

automatic probe calibration is available but operator or programer should initiate it..

Automated system programming also working with robots and conveyor system ,but human need to control it....

Speaking of robotics and automation, my co-worker (John Connor) who works with
me here at Cyberdyne systems is deathly afraid of automation for some odd reason?

A program can be written to do a calibration on a series of probes so that the program can be run to calibrate all the probes that are needed.

Perhaps the simplest method for doing this would be to create a calibration program for a given program which included the probes used in that program. This can be done by adding a "Probing System Qualification" feature from the menu by going to Resources - > Utilities -> Probing System Qualification.

It is possible to get as complex with this as you want, another method would be to create a qualification program with every probe you have in it, and then choose the probes you need prior to run.

Using PCM you could go a step further and have PCM select the probes you wanted the program to run. We use a system like this which allows the operator to open a program and it will not run the program unless the probes are calibrated, if they are not calibrated then it stops the program and tells the operator to run the calibration program, which gets fed a list of all the probes needed, so the operator just runs the calibration program and all the probes are calibrated.

So it is definitely possible to automate it, there is not something built in that will automate it, but it is possible.

.... and FYI Clarke, I am fairly sure he is just afraid that with all that automation there is a chance he might be terminated. 🤣

I guess you could add one in a part program to run every time but don't know what that would accomplish. I think for most of us, we move the reference sphere out of the way in between calibrations. I have a program that has all my probe calibrations in it so I can run them all at once(geometry requalify) without repositioning the reference sphere.

Derek, we have PCM on two of our three Conturas. I could really use something like this.
Care to elaborate with more detail for this option?

Thanks guys. I have a program that will qualify all the probes. We use AutoRun on the shop floor, it is on the home page of the AutoRun screen. And as far as the automation of this, they were thinking having the CMM at some off shift time early AM, the machine wakes up, and runs the qualification program. HA!
