Drives off at axis limit

Hello everyone,

I am having a weird issue at both of my Accuras (1 & 2) after updating to Version 6.8.12

Previously, if I manually went to the limit of the axis (slowly) the machine would just stop moving, but the drives would remain on.
If I went too fast the drives would shut off, but after pushing the column a little bit, I would be able to turn the drives back on and continue working.

Now, even when going very very slowly, the drives shut off, and after moving the machine away from the limit they won't go back on. I have to shut down the machine completely, turn it back on, turn the drives on and home it again.

It sucks as I have some long bars that I check right at the Y and X limits and going slowly I was able to establish how far the machine will reach.
I have tried installing the patch, but it didn't change anything.

Is there some setting for it? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Wojciech

It almost sounds like you may have a bad air bearing.. It's seems unlikely because it is both machines but you may want to contact Zeiss if possible. They will be able to link to your machine and help you troubleshoot and pin point the issue. Before calling check and be sure you have the correct air pressure running to your machine. Too much or too little air pressure can also cause the drives to shut off.

I am not familiar with the Acura machines, but why are the drives shutting off in the first place? The Zeiss CMMs I have used all have "soft-limits" or switches to stop the machine as the axis limit is approached. If your drives are shutting off, you are hitting a limit switch or hard stop that the machine should not be able to travel to. Maybe your "soft-limits" or limit switch need adjustment?

The only time I've seen it do this is if you don't have Calypso opened.

If Calypso is opened, it shouldn't kick the drives off if you hit a limit.

Thanks for the replies,

It has started only after the latest service pack was installed.
Seems weird that it would be software related, but I guess that before contacting Zeiss I will revert software to previous version and see if its happening still.

I suspected the hardware at first but the same thing started happening on both machines on the same day.

Thanks for confirming its not normal!
