Can someone give me a little overview on what the Curve Form does? Does curve form work like a flatness or roundness and only best fits the data or is it somehow tied to the nominal values? The fact that there is Tolerance Offset, it seems to behave like it's tied to the nominal values.

Regarding a few of the settings in Curve Form. In Shape of Zone, the difference between Standard and Range? What does the "Actual value plot" do? I notice when this option is ticked, the deviation values go away.

I know I have more questions but I don't know what they are....

Originally Curve Form was the only way to Form Plot a Line Profile. It was a pain in the butt though because you were forced to measure the feature to an alignment to ensure that the results made sense.

The Curve Form is reporting the Max & Min deviation of the nominals to actuals and reporting the range between the two.

Like Richard stated, the form gives you the range of the Max and Min deviations. It is good for checking the form (obviously) but may not be giving you what you are looking for.

I had to correct a program we had here where we were checking a curve. The print was calling for a profile and the program was reporting form. They were confused as to why it was reporting good numbers per their checksheet but was coming up red on the report from calypso.

For us, what was occurring was, when you take the range and lets say the max is 0.200" and the min is 0.175" and the profile tolerance is 0.250: They set the form tolerance to the profile tolerance. The form showed a good number 0.025" but the image on the report will be red. That is because the profile is actually 0.400" and out of tolerance.

Don't know if that helps or is just random nonsense that means nothing to you. 😐

Per the help file:
Tolerance form  Defines the type of form tolerance: 
Standard: The curve is within the tolerance if the curve points lie in a range between the outer and inner equidistants and the nominal curve. 
Range: The curve is within the tolerance if the difference between the largest and the smallest deviation does not exceed the tolerance dimension.  
Actual Value Plot  Activates the settings for the actual value plot:
Default Actual Value Plot: The measured points are output with a value corrected by the stylus radius.
Projected + corrected points: For the plot, the measured points are projected into the projection plane of the curve and corrected by the stylus radius along the normal vectors turned into the projection plane.
Projected + BLADE PRO Export: For the plot, the measured points are projected into the projection plane of the curve and corrected by the stylus radius along the normal vectors turned into the projection plane. Subsequently, the XML data is generated in BLADE PRO export format.
With masked points: For better recognition of the transitions at the gaps, the plot also includes the points that were masked for the evaluation. These points will not be taken into account for the calculation of the measurement result.

I've never worked with those options, and I don't remember if they are even covered in the Curve Training.

Richard Helle was the original person that trained me in Curve many moons ago, so it's possible that he might have a much better understanding of those options.
